The results are in an this year's pictures of the year competition is has good as it always is. National Press Photographers Association Pictures of the Year is online and worth the hours you'll spend looking over these images again and again.
There is so much incredible talent out there in the world of photojournalism. Bravo to the NPPA for making the images available on the web.
This year's Photographer of the Year winner went to Jim Gehrz of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Judging all the entries must be an enormous job. I liked that Jim's portfolio won because he realy showed that you don't have to travel the world covering disasters to make compelling images. Jim's backyard is his world and he visually reports on life with eloquence and grace. There are some especially powerful images in Jim's story on the life of Sgt. Jessica Clements and her recovery from injuries in Iraq.
For Best Multimedia Packages in the Unaffliated Sites categories the University of North Carolina presents Chiloe Stories from Chile. The students put together an incredible package of stories, complete with very clean audio.
Paul Sakuma and the San Francisco Bay Area Photographers Association just put together a list of regional winners in this year National Press Photographers Association Pictures of the Year Competition. Nice to see our very own Ivan Kashinsky winning at this level.
