Liam holds baby Sophia for the first time while getting a few pointers from mom.
I like the intensity of this moment and how Sophie seems to be caught in the middle of the conversation. Photography, at its best, is a form of personal communication that can transcend time and space. For me, it is in moments like this that I tend to remember best. Somehow, words seem to fall shot of describing what an image connotes as well as denotes.
I think what comes through here for me may be associated with some of the tensions surrounding having a new baby in the family. For a big brother, this is a time of great excitement and uncertainty. There are so many adjustments to be made. For the first time in five years, for example, Liam is away from his mom for more than a day. Life lessons are learned in the little moments that come with adjusting to new ways of sharing and living.
Photography, for me, can be like poetry in this way. It can have a way of capturing the subtle changes in life through capturing expression and emotion.
