In March, Southern Oregon University will host the annual Thomas W. Pyle First Amendment Forum. This year's keynote speaker will be former CNN Anchor Aaron Brown who will talk about the status and performance of local and national television news.

Thomas W. Pyle First Amendment Forum in the Rogue River Room at Southern Oregon University at 7 p.m., March 1, 2006.
Former CNN anchor Aaron Brown, who hosted “NewsNight with Aaron Brown” from June 2001 until November 2005, is this year’s keynote speaker. Brown’s topic: “Is TV news fulfilling its promise?”
After the keynote, the news directors from Medford’s three network affiliates have been invited to join Brown in a panel discussion of TV news’s promise and performance both nationally and locally. The public is invited to The First Amendment Forum at no charge.
Brown began his TV career as a reporter and anchor at KING-TV News in Seattle, Wash., and he was an anchor at KIRO-TV, Seattle. In December 1991, he joined ABC news to anchor World News Now, the network’s overnight newscast. In 1993 he joined “ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings,” eventually anchoring “Nightline,” “Good Morning America” and the “ABC World News Tonight Saturday” broadcast.
In the summer of 2001 he was hired by CNN to launch “NewsNight with Aaron Brown.” Brown has received an Edward R. Murrow award from the Radio-TV News Directors Association for his reporting in the CNN coverage of the 9/11 attacks. Brown has also won a Dupont Award and three Emmys for news broadcasting.
The Thomas W. Pyle First Amendment Forum is produced by the Department of Communication at SOU. The Forum is presented through a grant from The Ashland Daily Tidings, with support from the SOU School of Arts and Letters.
