Editor & Publisher is reporting today that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's "obscene gesture" to a photographer after attending Mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston is causing quite a stink.
In fact, the photographer was reportedly fired from the Catholic Weekly he was stringing for because he passsed a picture of the justice's hand-flicking gesture along to the Boston Herald, which published it.
Justice Scalia accused the Herald of watching too much "Sopranos" in a letter to the editor.
According to the National Press Photographers Association, "Freelance photojournalist Peter A. Smith, 51,has been “fired” by The Pilot, a weekly Catholic newspaper run by the Archdiocese of Boston, for releasing to the Boston Herald a photograph of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia making a controversial Italian hand gesture while he was inside the Cathedral of the Holy Cross last Sunday."
